In Ancient Egypt, Carnelian carried associations with vitality, protection and the life-giving power of the sun. It appeared in jewellery and funerary objects, including pieces associated with elite burials, where its fiery colouring could carry symbolic significance surrounding life, protection and passage beyond death.

Carnelian also became especially valuable for carved seals and signet stones. Because hot wax does not readily adhere to it, the stone was beautifully suited to impressions. Imagine a piece of Carnelian pressed into wax centuries ago, leaving behind a name, symbol or declaration.
